Little tweak to traditional Badam 7 card game and fun galore

Last vacation we found ourself playing cards after long time.

And most of the time ended up playing Badam Sat , which was quite famous cards game during my childhood ( and I guess it is still so).

Game starts with 7 of hearts and then each player takes a turn to put sequential cards. Any suit can only start with seven. Objective of the game is to get rid of your cards and one who has lowest points after set number of games is a winner. Points for the cards same as the rank and 11,12,13, for Jack, Queen and King respectively.

Most of us play it traditionally with holding back higher value cards ( i.e making sure others can’t play Jack, Queen or King). It got quite boring as every one was with set thinking. So we decided to tweak rules a bit. We changed scoring rule to make ends are costlier i.e King or Ace both given same weightage. So minimum value is 7 and rest is mirror image.

  • 8 & 6 is 8
  • 9 & 5 is 9
  • 10 & 4 is 10
  • Jack & 3 is 11
  • Queen & 2 is 12 and
  • King & 1 (ace) is 13

This brought sudden fun in the game with everyone had to adjust the strategy. Spade 2 is costlier than Harts 10 so getting rid of 2 was higher priority. Scores were high so it also eliminated cards distribution luck to some extent.

Opportunity to hold on to cards immediately got doubled, not only 7 and 8 but 6 was also an important card. Club Jack looked nicer than Hearts 2 and so on.

Give it a try and it’s much more fun than traditional Badam 7.

Another variant you can try is after Hearts 7 next suit doesn’t start with 7 but with 8 or 6 and then next one is with 6 or 8(other than previously chosen) from 2nd play and last one again starts with 7. It adds more dynamism to game based on previous play.
